Our Umpire Mentoring Program
We value our umpires – without them, we wouldn’t be able to play the game we love.
At East Gungahlin Netball Club, we’re committed to developing confident, skilled umpires through a structured pathway aligned with Netball Australia and Netball ACT guidelines. Our program combines education, practical experience, and mentoring to support progression from beginner through to becoming a C Badge candidate.
Stage 1
Stage 1: Beginner Umpire
- Focus: Entry-level introduction to umpiring.
- Key Skills: Rule knowledge, whistle technique, positioning basics, confidence.
- Support: Mentor provides feedback after every game.
Stage 2
Stage 2: Developing Umpire
- Focus: Intermediate skill-building and game management.
- Key Skills: Communication, consistency, advantage application, teamwork.
- Support: Coordinator ensures clinic attendance and observation sessions.
Stage 3
Stage 3: C Badge Candidate
- Focus: Advanced preparation for formal accreditation.
- Key Skills: Vision, advantage rule, composure under pressure.
- Support: Assessor conducts mock and formal assessments.
