Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What age groups do you cater for?

Players aged 5–18 years, both girls and boys.

  • Do I need experience to join?

No! We welcome beginners and experienced players alike. We have teams across all divisions of the NCNC competition, so if you are new to the sport, we have a team for you!

  • Where do you train and play?

Training is at Lyneham courts and the day will vary depending on the teams availability. All games are held on Saturdays at Lyneham and Charnwood courts.

  • When is the season?

The winter season generally starts around April with the season ending in September.

  • What should my child bring to training sessions?

Your child should bring along to every session:

    • A water bottle to stay hydrated

    • Comfortable sports clothing (e.g., T-shirt and shorts or leggings)

    • Supportive runners or sports shoes

    • Sunscreen and a hat if sessions are outdoors

    • Optional: A light snack for after training.

  • Who do I contact if my child is not able to attend a training session or game?

The team coach is the best person to inform as soon as possible if your child will miss a training session or game due to illness, injury, or other reasons. The Coach plans training sessions and activities based on expected numbers, so advance notice helps ensure training sessions run smoothly. Communication is best done through the TeamStack App and this will be set up at the beginning of the season.

  • Who should I contact if I have an issue or a concern?

If you have any concerns, please speak with the team coach or manager in the first instance. If you’re not comfortable doing so, you can contact the Club President directly at [insert contact details]. We’re here to ensure your feedback is heard and addressed promptly.

  • How do I get involved with the club? How do I volunteer?

We welcome parents and community members to get involved! You can volunteer as a coach, assistant, team helper, or help with administration and events. To volunteer:

    • Contact the Club President for available roles.

    • Complete any required checks (e.g., Working With Vulnerable People registration) and training (such as NetSetGO orientation).

    • Attend a brief induction session to understand your responsibilities and child safety requirements.

Your support helps make the program fun and safe for all participants!

  • How do team allocations work?

Team allocations at EGNC are designed to ensure fairness, development, and enjoyment for all players. Here’s how the process works:

    • Registration Review: We review all player registrations and age groups.

    • Grading Sessions: We hold grading sessions to assess skills and place players in the most suitable team.

    • Selection Panel: A neutral, unbiased panel is established to assist in grading players and assessing skill levels.

    • Friendship Requests: We may consider friendship requests for younger players where possible, while balancing team numbers, playing positions and skill levels.

    • Coach Input: Coaches may provide feedback to help create balanced teams.

    • Final Allocation: Teams are confirmed before the season starts, and families are notified via email.

Our goal is to create teams that promote fair play, skill development, and a positive experience for every player.

  • My child is interested in umpiring. How do they get involved?

That’s fantastic! At EGNC, we offer a structured Umpire Mentoring Program aligned with Netball Australia and Netball ACT guidelines. Your child can start as a Beginner Umpire, where they’ll learn the basics with support from experienced mentors. As they gain confidence, they can progress through our pathway to work towards a C Badge accreditation.

    To get started:

    • Register your interest via our [Umpire Mentoring Program page].

    • We’ll provide education resources, practical opportunities, and mentoring support.

    • No prior experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!

  • My child is currently 4 years old but they turn 5 in March. Are they able to join the club?

Yes! If your child turns 5 during the season, they are eligible to join our NetSetGO program. We recommend registering early so they can start as soon as they reach the minimum age. The program is designed for children aged 5–10 years and starting at 5 is a great way to introduce them to netball in a fun and safe environment.

  • My child is interested in coaching a team. How do they get involved?

That’s great to hear! At EGNC, we welcome and support young coaches. Here’s how they can get started:

    • Express Interest: Contact us via our [Become a Volunteer – Support our EGNC Family! page] or email the club.

    • Training & Support: We encourage all new coaches to complete the Netball Australia Foundation Coach Accreditation course. We’ll provide guidance and resources to help them succeed.

    • Mentoring: New coaches are paired with experienced mentors to build confidence and skills.

    • Requirements: Coaches must hold a current ACT Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) card—the process is simple and free.
